Wiki Resources

K-12 General

http://edutechwiki.unige.ch/en/Main_Page
This wiki does not have a specific grade level, but has my subject areas, educational technology. At this point this wiki is one of the most complete wikis I have found. It offers a lot of resources related to the field, such as workshops, tutorials, latest events, other articles and very relevant news. Submitted by Jose Munoz.

http://bookleads.wikispaces.com/home
This wiki is dedicated to anything and everything that has to do with books. It can be used from grades K-12. When you first go to the wiki, you see so many hyperlinks that you can hit on from young adult readers to book blogs. This wiki can be used to show students how fun reading and blogging can really be. It offers audiobooks and ebook ideas. It lets you know of authors that Skype and that follow Tweeter. The ideas and lessons that this wiki can offer could be endless. It offers book sites and widgets and resources for librarians and early education teachers. Submitted by Erika Favela.

http://www.seven-oaks.net/ScienceEd2/pmwiki.php
The wiki is for science teacher at all levels to share lesson plans, projects, experiments and professional development opportunities. For high school chemistry, a link was created allowing teachers to view demonstrations, slide shows, and interactive/dynamic periodic tables to use in the classroom. One of the most interesting links on this wiki is a link to a list of material substitutions for labs, reviewed by Flinn. This list provides less hazardous chemical substitutions which may be beneficial for lower level or inclusion chemistry classes or for high school chemistry classrooms on a budget. Submitted by Martha Juarez.

http://biology.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
This resource is starting up as a Wikipedia for biological topics from DNA to AIDS to the origin of species. Although it is not as developed as other sites, the information was solid. This would be a great way to introduce how science wikis can be created within the high school science classroom for students to share their knowledge and that not all possible resources are necessarily large resources like Wikipedia yet.
Submitted by Martha Juarez.

http://community.acs.org/ChemBiol/WIKI/tabid/54/Default.aspx
This site is maintained by the American Chemical society. The wiki itself is actually a resource wiki for other chemistry and biology wikis, such as the ChemBio WIKIspot discussing literature of interest and a glossary for terms produced by journal authors. This would function well in AP biology and chemistry classes for research projects where students need to read original research for projects and discussion.

Kinder : Technology Integration http://itcboisestate.wordpress.com/2008/05/21/10-best-practices-for-using-wikis-in-education/
This wiki is a really amazing resource for how to use technology in a kindergarten classroom. It is very well organized, presents the standards, the hardware and software resources necessary and provides examples of integration. It’s like “Technology in Kinder for dummies” =) I loved it because it integrates both of my areas of interest. I am teaching Kindergarten, but my Master’s is in Technology. Submitted by Diana Beltran.

Kinder: Connecting Classrooms http://kinderkidsdraw.wikispaces.com/
This wiki really interested me because I think it’s an awesome way for us to connect with our colleagues from around the world but also a way to introduce our students to how technology has made our world smaller. Also, it makes learning exciting for them because the students are sharing what they are learning with our classrooms around the world. Submitted by Diana Beltran.

Kinder: Teacher Resources http://k-12teacherresources.wikispaces.com/PreSchool+and+Kindergarten
This website was my favorite! It contains a multitude of resources for Pre-school and Kinder teachers. It has links for Kinder teachers’ blogs and the links for resources are organized by subject. I could not get over how many different resources there were! I’m sure we all know that the Internet has zillions of resources available for us, but it’s nice to have a “cheat sheet” with all of the resources in one place and already organized. Submitted by Diana Beltran.

This educational wiki is targeted for students to succeed in science. The grade level is not mentioned, but after reading its content it seems that it is oriented for Elementary School kids. The main subject is about zoology and ecology. She has introduced several critical links that aid student to understand the subject better. In addition, she also introduces a Podcast technology that we will see later in our class. She also has a twitter account for you to follow, which is another web 2.0 technology available for us to use in our classrooms, free and easy to use to keep communication between us and our students. Submitted by Jose Munoz.

http://mrsanderson10.pbworks.com/w/page/33263525/FrontPage
This is an educational wiki that I found that is AMAZING to say the least. The grade level that it is for is 2nd grade but I'm sure that grades K-6 could use it. The subject matter is self-contained, which means the teacher teaches all subjects. On this wiki a teacher has created an ongoing wiki/blog of her classes projects and assignments. She has a hyperlink section of the students' names and when you click on them you can see some of their work. It's like an interactive portfolio. In addition, she records video and shows you the various projects that the students participate in. Submitted by Erika Favela.

http://21centuryedtech.wikispaces.com/home
This wiki can be used for all grade levels. This is more of a teacher resource than anything else. It offers links to lesson plans and links for project based ideas, gives you links to games and much, much, more. It offers top Web 2.0 tools to use during instruction. It's very teacher/user-friendly. In addition, it offers free software ideas that are a must for any teacher. The creator's blog is also there. One of the neatest things I saw with the wiki is that it offers webinars that you can watch from your own computer. Talk about continuing education. Submitted by Erika Favela.

Web 2.0: Cool Tools for Schools the title says it all, this is a library style wiki and has great links to classroom management and lesson planning tools. The sidebar works like a table of contents and ranges from Collaborative tools to Music tools. Click on any topic from the sidebar and a list of related links appears with a description for each link. This wiki could be used in any classroom setting. Submitted by Mandy Fernandez.

Wikiswork is the place to go if you are not sure how to use a wiki in your classroom or if you would like to gather more ideas on how to use a wiki. There are links to classroom wikis of varying grades and from around the country. There is also a collaborative list of ideas on how to use a wiki in the classroom. Submitted by Mandy Fernandez.

A great example of a second grade wiki, by Teacher Harju. There is an introduction to what a wiki is, probably more for parents than the students, and an explanation of what to do with this wiki. There are helpful links for students to use with homework and the teacher has worked to provide a fun, easy to navigate and engaging wiki. Submitted by Mandy Fernandez.

http://linktolearning.wikispaces.com/Wikis+in+the+Classroom
I found this site very interesting for kindergarten and elementary level. It has computer centered activities for children to learn by listening and practicing online different subjects such as Math, Language Arts/ Reading, Social Studies, and Science. The teacher has a variety of links to help students get engaged with different places to learn more online activities. I really liked this site because I think it is very complete and it has educational games. It is very colorful and also very easy to use, especially for students who are acquiring a second language. Submitted by Joanna Parra.

http://resources4learning.wikispaces.com/
This wiki provides different resources for students from kindergarten to eighth grades. This site has been created by classroom teachers and specialists. Furthermore, it helps students reinforce their skills to learn more about a subject that they didn’t understand with online activities. I found this wiki very interesting because students not only can blog with classmates and teachers, but also they can record themselves in a place which is called Voice Thread that is for a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images and videos and students can comment in 5 ways using voice, text, video, or recording comments too. Submitted by Joanna Parra.

http://monarchlibrary.wikispaces.com/
This wiki is for small children from k-4 so they can get engaged with reading. It has different links and sites for educators and parents can share with small children. It also offers students resources for reading class stories. This wiki focuses in reading enhancement for students. Submitted by Joanna Parra.

http://278mathwiki.wikispaces.com/home
278 Math Teacher is a wonderful math resource wiki for teachers and parents. This wiki has resources for K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Resources include lessons, websites, and videos but it is aNew York Citywiki so you would have to be very careful about checking your TEKS. It’s very well organized according to what is seen each month. Submitted by Ana Moctezuma.

http://class3m.pbworks.com/w/page/15953714/WikiStyle
Class3d is a collection of wikis from Grandview Library. Each third grade class had their own topic: Our Solar System ~ Mrs. Catin The Earth ~ Mrs. Danis The Four Seasons & Weather - Mrs. Jacques Animal Life ~ Mrs. Murray Plant Life ~ Mrs. Greenbaum Caring for Our Earth - Ecology ~ Mrs. Watkins. Since each class creates their own wiki, it includes great recourses on how to change the styles of the wiki. Submitted by Ana Moctezuma.

http://desbuffalo.wikispaces.com/home
Discovery Elementary shares 5C’s, Contribute, Collaborate, Cooperate, Care, and Celebrate in their wiki. I found most helpful the icon to Book talks. They welcome others to join Book Talk discussions as well as include examples of questions and stems for discussions. Under it’s "lets play" tab they included a simple to use Math Fact game. Submitted by Ana Moctezuma.

http://collaborationnation.wikispaces.com/
I liked the wiki Collaboration Nation for middle school social studies because it is a student made wiki. There are guidelines that students must follow while using the wiki. It has written and video directions on wiki use. Students post videos, digital and podcast of events and activities that they have or are participating in and there is even a section on cyber bullying. The wiki is intended for students use mostly. Submitted by Rodolfo Ramirez.

http://newtoolsworkshop.wikispaces.com/
The wiki Eight (or so) Easy 2.0 Pieces to Piece Together lists all the new educational 2.0 tools that teachers can use in their classroom. The wiki has subsection with Google docs, tutorials, interview videos, and an unlimited list of resources for teachers. If you need to know about the latest 2.0 tools this is the wiki that you need to visit. Submitted by Rodolfo Ramirez.

http://eatme.wikispaces.com/Apples
The wiki titled "Eat Me" interested me because it has a catchy title. I viewed it a couple of times before I clicked on it. This wiki is cool because it has students’ written responses on it and they comment on what they liked or didn’t like about a food. The first page has apple but there is a list of other foods that children don’t necessarily like to eat and with students responses they might convince someone to eat something they wouldn’t otherwise eat. Submitted by Rodolfo Ramirez.

http://shannaraek-5math.wikispaces.com/5th%20Grade%20Math%20Investigation%20Resources

http://ep-storytown.wikispaces.com/5th_Grade
This wiki offers interactive games and activities for 5th grade students in the area of reading and language arts. Students can participate in interactive tutorials, games, reading comprehension activities and concept strategies. A few of the links on the page require login information, but many do not. I think it would be a great tool to use with my 5th graders, especially students who are struggling with language arts.
Submitted by Sherry Klowetter Valles.

http://mcadorylab.wikispaces.com/5th%20Grade%20Links
This wiki offers links to podcasts, educational websites, interactive games for math and science, investigations, photographs, webcasts, and videos. I like this wiki because it is very user friendly. It is geared towards middle school and engages them to investigate, plan, create, and evaluate. I really like the structure of this design cycle because it simplifies things for these students. It breakes down the process that should be followed through each stage and outlines the steps that each student will go through when completing a technology project. Submitted by Art Garcia.

http://21centuryedtech.wikispaces.com/home
This wiki can be used in the upper grades from fifth grade to eight graders. It provides a fun way for teachers and students to collaborate and share ideas. Students are to create a blogging community within the classroom while the teacher is monitoring. This allows the teacher to control what is being blogged and at the same time gives the students freedom to be open and share ideas in this community. This is fun for both teacher and student and can be easily incorporated into any grade level lesson plan. Submitted by Art Garcia.

http://cooltoolsforschools.wikispaces.com/Plann...Management
This is a classic but one of my favorites. It gives great help for planning and classroom management. I do not have a classroom yet but when i do this is going to be a valuable tool for me my first couple of years. This helps teachers from lesson plan ideas, social networks for teachers to help build relationships with other teachers in your same field, and just endless resources to help a teacher. This is just an amazing resource for either first time teachers or a a teacher who is looking to revamp teaching styles. Weather your in your first year of teaching or your eighth year of teaching it it never to late to improve and add different resources to your teaching methods. Submitted by Art Garcia.

http://greetingsfromtheworld.wikispaces.com/home
This particular wiki would be great for any for any world geography or anthropology class. Educators are constantly attempting to describe culture from around the world. Unfortunately, at times teachers attempt to describe a particular aspect of a distant culture while never actually experiencing or seeing the event first hand. This particular wiki offers first hand accounts of experiences from those individuals who actually live them. It is one thing for me to describe the dangerous Himalayan sharpa occupation. It would be another thing for the sharpas to actually speak of their own personal experiences. Submitted by Luis R. Jacquez.

http://primaryextension.wikispaces.com/home
The wiki offfers opportunities for students to take an investigative look into global warming. Students from around the world are able to share ideas, reports, data, and conclusions about the world wide phenomenon. Students conduct their own investigations and post their findings about the causes of global warming and how it is ultimately impacting the world. Students also come up with solutions and discuss energy alternatives. One can assume that global warming is affecting certain areas more than others. The benefit of this wiki is that students actually get the opportunity to discuss the quandary with somebody from the region in question. Submitted by Luis R. Jacquez.

http://learninglatinamerica.wikispaces.com/home
The wiki provides an in depth look into Latin America through postings of students who actually live in the country. A student from the United States can learn about Argentina from an Argentinian student. Ultimately, the wiki creates a connection between children and promotes a cultural consciousness as students from various parts of the world learn from one another. Submitted by Luis R. Jacquez.

http://miss-besack.wikispaces.com/Psychology

She has a sidebar with wiki pages for her Class Blog, Psychology wiki, Psychology Agendas and Homework, Psychology Core Project, Sociology, Sociology Agenda and Homework, Recent American History, College Recommendation, Noodle Tools, International Relations, and Links. Wow. Her class pages include assignments documents and PDFs available for downloads, project examples on youtube, podcasts, links to classroom blogs around the nation, accredited psychology association websites, psychology in the news like ABC, CNN, etc., powerpoints, etc. Submitted by Christina Ruiz.

http://214.wikispaces.com/Psychology
This is a Montana high school teacher’s classroom’s wiki. This is a wiki similar to the aforementioned but it a much more water downed version. This is wiki for upper highschool (11-12th grade ) instructors who teach government, world affairs, humanities, psychology, theater, and economics. I like it because it provides free downloadable documents/PDFS, lesson plans, online quizzes, and links for students. This is a good wiki for teachers planning at the last minute and or who need a simple easy to read wiki without the frills and distracting photos. Submitted by Christina Ruiz.

http://simpsonsforssteachers.wikispaces.com/There%27s+No+Disgrace+Like+Home
This is a wiki to 11-12th grade high school teachers who teach economics, government, history, and psychology. It should be used toward the end of the year when teachers need fun assignments because the students are ready for summer. It can also be used as an extra credit or fun assignment to reward students for their hard work. As the wiki title suggest, “Simpsons for Teachers”, it selects specific Simpsons episodes and subject vocabulary then shows how each world/concept is demonstrated in that episode. The creator also connects the vocabulary to state standards and objectives! Submitted by Christina Ruiz.

Anybody who is or becoming a history teacher knows that one of the most important lessons revolves around WWII. This wiki is amazing, it gives so much information on this time period and is perfect for any teacher who needs that extra little push to gain the students interest. It is full of very interesting pictures and like i always say seeing is alot better than just hearing about. By using this wiki i am sure that any teacher will have a little extra attention from there students. This was a great wiki. Jeremy Blandin
